Welcome to Best4aquariums.  This site aims to simplify the process of getting started with your first aquarium, and a run-down on everything you need to consider when buying your components.  There is information on species of coldwater freshwater fish, tropical freshwater fish and tropical marine fish, including profiles and photos, marine invertebrates and other marine creatures. You can also find useful profiles of aquatic plants suitable for the home aquarium. If you are experiencing any problems with your tank, such as cloudy water or algae, or chemical imbalances, there's information to help you resolve them. If you need information on calculating your tank size and livestock, please go to Tank Calculations. I've also included pages on fish health and anatomy to help you diagnose and treat any problems you may experience with your fish.  I hope you will also visit my reef conservation page to find our more about protecting these valuable and beautiful habitats.  Feel free to email me - there's a link on every page for any questions you may want to ask.  I will endeavour to reply within 24 hours . I also provide tank maintenance services and assistance setting up new tanks.  For more information see Contact for Services. At the base of each page you can search this site or Google for further information.

From basic tank set-ups, to nanoreefs and larger tanks, fish stocking and equipment needs, this is a great place to start to get your fish-keeping under way. You can also access other fishkeeping articles I've written at www.helium.com/users/409739

Successful fish-keeping gives you a sense of well-being and, dare I say it, pride!  There is something quite unique about keeping fish, and being able to maintain a good environment for them; even seeing them breed unexpectedly.  It gives you a sense of achievement which I have never come across before.  To call them pets seems inadequate, as they effectively live in a completely different world. They are a source of inspiration and tranquility to which other 'pets' cannot compare.

I hope you will read through this site and realise that fish-keeping can be a hobby for almost anyone, as long as the right processes are incorporated from the start.  I would highly recommend it.  After several years of keeping fish I now have a marine tank and a tropical freshwater tank, both of which continue to inspire and amaze me every week.  So please, don't assume it's not for you.  Once you get started it's so easy, and so rewarding.  I couldn't be without mine now.

Have a read through the site and decide for yourself if you want to try it.  To set up a new goldfish tank is really quite cheap, and I would recommend it as a starting point.  You can always move on to bigger and better things once you've found your feet.  Also, it's always useful to go to your local store and have a chat with someone knowledgeable.

Keeping aquariums means sourcing the best foods for your fish, lighting, equipment, filtration, plants and even the fish and invertebrates themselves.  This site aims to lay out everything you need to know to keep your fish happy and healthy.  There's information on fish and invertebrates, technical information for setting up a marine or tropical tank, and lots of information to help you make the right choice of livestock.
